AUSTIN, TX (KTRK) -- Disturbing new details are coming to light about the death of a University of Texas student.
The Austin American Statesman reports Haruka Weiser appears to have been sexually assaulted and died of strangulation. They say that's according to preliminary evidence gathered by detectives.
Weiser was found dead in a creek April 5, a day after being reported missing.
Meechaiel Criner, 17, is charged with murder. Investigators say he was seen in surveillance video following Weiser and was carrying her duffel bag after the murder.
