GALENA PARK, TX (KTRK) -- People out in Galena Park are talking about the neon green water in Panther Creek.
It's located on Clinton Drive near Houston's Ship Channel. The green water showed up on Friday and it's been this way ever since.
Many people who live out there were worried and wouldn't let their children near the creek.
Galena Park resident Maria Robles said, "It's gross. I don't let my kids near it, like if they play, they play right here they don't play over there. "
We checked with the city of Galena Park, the EPA and TCEQ.
We were told by city officials that this green substance is discharged clean water with tracer dye from an above ground storage tank from Houston based energy company Kinder Morgan. It was used to test their tanks for possible leaks.
City officials also say there's no danger to anyone and that the testing will likely happen again. They just don't know when.
We also received a statement from Kinder Morgan, which reads: "This was not a release, and the environment was not harmed. It involved the approved discharge of non-hazardous, dyed hydrotest water, which was permitted under our TCEQ general permit and used to test for leaks. The dye is TCEQ approved. We notified both the TCEQ and the U.S. Coast Guard (as a courtesy to the USCG) in advance. We also notified the Harris County Flood Control District and the City of Galena Park."
