BRISTOL, England (KTRK) -- A baby gorilla has survived birth via Cesarean section at England's Bristol Zoo.
The decision to use the procedure came earlier this month when the mother showed symptoms of potentially a life-threatening condition.
Zoo officials says the birth marks one of only a handful of times worldwide that a baby gorilla has been delivered via C-section.
The procedure was a first for the zoo and for the doctor who has delivered hundreds of human infants by Cesarean section, but never a gorilla.
