Garth Brooks RodeoHouston tickets sell out in 18 minutes
Country music legend Garth Brooks will surely play for a packed house at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this spring. Available tickets for his shows sold out this morning in just 18 minutes.
HLSR CEO and President Joel Cowley released a message about the sale on Facebook, saying that over 40,000 people were in the online waiting room when tickets went on sale. Out of that number, 33,765 fans bought them.
Cowley also says AXS, the platform tickets are purchased through, turned away 34,000 hits from robots that are used by re-sellers to try to buy tickets.
In an interview with Eyewitness News, Brooks promoted his new book about his life and career, "The Anthology: Part 1: The First Five Years," and previewed his upcoming RodeoHouston shows.
"This used to be an ordinary stop for us. We would either play the Compaq Center and the Rodeo, or the Summit and then the Rodeo, and then we took off to raise our babies," said Brooks, noting it's been more than 20 years since his last performance at the rodeo.
That will change early next year when he returns to open and close RodeoHouston, but seats may be scarce.
When tickets for both of the Brooks' shows went on sale on Friday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m., RodeoHouston said only fifth and sixth level seating would be available. That's about 10,000 tickets per concert. When the rest of the schedule is announced on January 4 and goes on sale, other popular performances will have a minimum of about 13,000 seats available. The majority of shows will have about 20,000 seats available to the general public.
RodeoHouston says it sells 44,000 season tickets, and is also allowing volunteers to buy tickets in a special presale. If you missed out on tickets today, there is a secondary RodeoHouston Marketplace opening in early December.
"We feel that it offers a service, not only to our season ticket holders, but also to those that are purchasing tickets on the secondary market, so they can purchase with the comfort of knowing that is a valid and authentic ticket," said Cowley.
