Friendswood High School students charged with having a gun on campus, had "Columbine" fixation

FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- Friendswood police have arrested two teens for having a gun on campus, then found social media posts reflecting "Columbine ideations."

The teens, who have not been identified, were taken into custody around 10:25 a.m. Thursday. Both teens face charges of Unlawful Carrying Weapons in a Weapon Free Zone, police said.

Both are booked in the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center.

Police began investigating after another student made a report Nov. 8, saying a 14-year-old student showed another student a handgun hidden in a binder. Police searched the school, but didn't find a gun.

Later, the uncle of that 14-year-old reported a theft of a gun, police said. The gun was last seen in mid-October and was stolen from his home, police reported. The uncle knew his nephew was being investigated for the earlier report, according to police.

Police looked on Instagram and found pictures of the stolen firearm and its possible location, police said. They went to a home in the Polly Ranch neighborhood and found the gun around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Police said on the teens social media accounts, there were "disturbing images and statements that manifest Columbine ideations and a fixation on school shootings," police said.
