HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Mom entrepreneur Rachel Teichman shares one of her recipes, a scone recipe inspired by famed artist Jackson Pollock.
Teichman notes, "At The Scone Artist, we get our inspiration from fine art genres and artists. The Pollock Scones are a nod to the painting 'Lavender Mist,' by Jackson Pollock. Instead of purple and black splattered paints, we use chopped blackberries and melted chocolate to make this tasty treat."
Pollock Scones
2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons chilled butter, cubed
1 cup milk
1 teaspooon vanilla extract
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted
3/4 cup blackberries, chopped
1. Melt 1/2 cup of semisweet chocolate chips in the microwave for about two minutes, stirring them every 30 seconds.
2. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl or food processor.
3. Cube the butter, and add it to the dry ingredients. Combine with a fork or pastry tool until the mixture is crumbly. Or mix with a few pulses in the food processor. If using a food processor, transfer everything to a bowl once combined.
4. Then pour in the milk and vanilla. Mix until just combined.
5. Add the chopped blackberries.
6. Add the melted chocolate until just marbled through the batter.
7. Drop by two tablespoonfuls full on to a pan covered with parchment paper.
8. Bake at 425 degrees for 9 minutes. Makes 30 scones.
Note: Use cream, whole or 2 percent milk for best results.
