HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Does your car feel like an oven in this summer heat? Why not use it as an oven, then?
Bobby Jucker of Three Brothers Bakery gave us a few tips on how to make bake cookies inside a hot car.
You will need a baking sheet, spatula, cooking spray, a timer, cookie dough (we used Three Brothers Bakery sugar cookie dough) and a car parked in the sun.
Jucker says it's not an exact science, since car temperatures can vary quite a bit. His cookies bake in a conventional oven at 350F for 8-10 minutes, so he says make sure to allow extra time.
We tested the method here in the ABC-13 parking lot. We used a temperature gun to read the internal temperature of 154F inside the black SUV we used as an oven. After an hour, the cookie dough was not fully baked.
We returned the cookies to the car to allow them to bake another hour. After a total of two hours inside the car, the cookies had finished baking.
The batch baked inside the car turned out a little softer than the cookies from the conventional oven, but they were still delicious!
