Confict resolution for parents
Lidya Osadchey discusses the Adrian Peterson case as well as general child discipline

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson's booking on a child abuse charge has touched off a national debate about the role of corporal punishment in parenting.

So how should parents discipline their children?

Eyewitness News' Jeff Ehling turned to Lidya Osadchey, of ESCAPE Family Resource Center, a Houston nonprofit dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect, for more on conflict resolution for parents.

She said, "At ESCAPE Family Resource Center...we match the developmental ages to the appropriate consequences so the children are able to learn from their mistakes. We want to correct their behavior. We don't want to hurt them. We don't want to diminish them. And interestingly, that the Vikings gave Mr. Peterson a 'time-out' - the same exact discipline that he should have given a 4-year-old no matter what the child did."
