KINGWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- A man was gunned down in the street in Kingwood overnight after he went to grab something from his car. Police are now trying to catch his killer.
"I heard a pop. I thought it was fireworks," said neighbor Kay Masson.
But those weren't fireworks heard in this once quiet neighborhood. Those were gunshots.
"I heard somebody speed away, but I didn't go look," she said.
Those shots hit one man. Now he's dead. It happened around 1am Friday morning in the 5400 block of Garden Village Drive.
"A male was shot outside of his home, went back inside his home and collapsed and passed away," said HPD homicide investigator Mandy Arroyo.
Neighbors say a woman and her two teenage sons, who declined to talk to us, have been renting the home for several years, and the 23-year-old male victim was just staying at the home temporarily.
Neighbors also say there have been problems here before.
"We feel like it's a drug deal gone bad," said neighbor Deborah Gullette. "We've been trying to get something done about it for a long time."
They say they even found strange packages all along the street.
"They were different colors and they were were in a hermetically sealed case. It could have been medication. It could have been trash," said Masson. "My husband just threw it in the trash. He didn't want to get involved with it."
There are still a lot of questions as the investigation goes on. Police are not releasing the name of the shooting victim at this point. They say there are also no suspects.
The identify of the victim has not been released & police are still looking for a suspect. If you have any information, contact crime stoppers, at 713-222-TIPS .
