BOLIVAR PENINSULA, TX -- A bottlenose dolphin is in critical care after it was found stranded on the beach in Bolivar Peninsula, according to authorities.
The young animal was found stranded at 3:30am this morning, according to the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, which rescued the animal and is now handling the animal's care.
The animal is now swimming on its own. Veterinarians are working tests to learn what caused her to get stranded on the beach.
The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network notes on its Facebook page, "Please remember, our goal is always to return these animals to their natural habitat, but dolphins on the Texas coast do not generally strand without disease. Most do not survive the stranding event and those that do may require long-term care to restore their health. We always give each case our undivided attention and all resources at our disposal, and this case is no different. We'll post updates as we are able."
