Dog is the lone survivor of a plane crash that killed passengers

LONG ISLAND, New York (KTRK) -- Investigators say the only survivor of a small plane crash in New York was a dog.

Police say the pilot was trying to land the plane in a field Saturday morning when it crashed and caught fire.

Two people died in the crash.

Investigators say the cause of the crash was mechanical.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
