Dehumidifiers recalled after sparking fires, burns

More than 3 million dehumidifiers have been recalled after they caused more than $4.8 million in fire and smoke damage.

Midea says the dehumidifiers are sold under a variety of brand names, and involved 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 65, 70 and 75-pint models.

The dehumidifiers are sold under these brand names: Airworks, Alen, Arcticaire, Arctic King, Beaumark, Coolworks, ComfortAire, Comfort Star, Continental Electic, Crosley, Daewoo, Danby, Danby & Designer, Dayton, Degree, Diplomat, Edgestar, Excell, Fellini, Forest Air, Frigidaire, GE, Grunaire, Hanover, Honeywell, Homestyles, Hyundai, Ideal Air, Kenmore, Keystone, Kul, Midea, Nantucket, Ocean Breeze, Pelonis, Perfect Aire, Perfect Home, Polar Wind, Premiere, Professional Series, Royal Sovereign, Simplicity, Sunbeam, SPT, Sylvania, TGM, Touch Point, Trutemp, Uberhaus, Westpointe, Winix, and Winixl.

You can check for the brand name, model numbers, pint capacity and manufacture dates on the nameplate sticker on the back of the dehumidifier.

Midea says those who own these dehumidifiers should immediately turn off and unplug their units, and contact the company for a replacement or refund.
