HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Four people died in a car accident last Sunday night on their way home from Hindu Temple.
"It's a loss for not just one temple but for all the Hindu community," said Pramthesh Patel.
Police say Million Zeghergis was drunk when he ran a red light at the intersection of Beechnut at Synott, crashing his Dodge van into a Honda Civic carrying five people. The impact sent the Honda spinning into a truck stopped at the light.
The victims lost are Devendra Patel, Kokila Patel and Ansuya Patel, all in their 60s. A prominent and well-respected Hindu Priest, Jayanti Bhatt, was also killed in the accident.
"They touched lives in such a way that they're truly going to be missed," said one of the victims' relatives.
Dipali Patel lost both of her parents in the accident.
"Why my parents? Why was this irresponsible person driving? When you are behind that steering wheel drunk, think about other people. Don't be selfish and drive," she said.
A funeral for Bhatt is scheduled for Saturday. His wife was also in the car accident. She survived but is recovering in the ICU.
