HOUSTON (KTRK) -- David Osmond's new song "I Can Do This" has a message for people with a challenge in their lives.
But Osmond himself knows something about facing life's trials. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis or MS at age 26.
Osmond is the son of Alan Osmond, the oldest of the performing Osmond Brothers and the leader of the group and a songwriter. Osmond left the stage after he was diagnosed with MS.
Osmond is in town this weekend for the Walk MS event on Sunday.
Osmond said, "I fell into the family business, I guess, before I knew it was a business and had been performing my whole life. But there came a time in my life when, just like my dad, when he had to leave the stage, I also left the stage and my worst was in a wheelchair, believe it or not, and from the chest down (I was) unable to move even my toes. And I was diagnosed with MS...but a different form of MS than my dad."
He continued, "MS is now something that is now part of my life, and believe it or not, it's also one of the best things that's happened to me because it's given me a new perspective on life.
"There's so much more to sing about, to write about now that I am doing my music again," he said. "And just like my dad says, you know, I may still have MS, but MS does not have me."
The Walk MS event will be held Sunday, November 9 at the University of Houston Main Campus, Recreation & Wellness Center.
