We're celebrating Dave Ward's 49 years at ABC13
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Forty-nine years ago Monday, November 9, 1966, I came to work here as Channel 13's first ever on-the-street reporter. There were seven of us in our news department then.
Three months later, I became anchor of our 7am news and a couple of years later, co-anchor on the 6pm and 10pm news.
As you know, this business is ruled by ratings, and if the people of southeast Texas, and especially Houston, had not tuned in to our newscasts, I wouldn't have lasted very long, certainly not 49 years.
I am deeply grateful to you for allowing me to come into your homes. All I ever wanted to do was find out what's going on, and then tell everyone about it.
On Tuesday, I begin my 50th year of doing that, and I hope to be here for quite some time yet. So from a very grateful heart, thank you friends.
