GEEK OUT: Comicpalooza returns Memorial Day weekend

HOUSTON, Texas -- Comicpalooza, the largest comic book, gaming, and pop-culture convention in Texas is back.

"This is a Houston homegrown con that has started from the bottom and now has gotten tremendous," Artist Bobby Ramos said. "It's a hero story in itself."

The event is known to bring pop-culture legends, rising stars, comic artists and writers. This year the celebrity appearance include William Shatner, Lou Diamond Philips, Ian Somerhalder, plus the cast of Arrow and The Boys.

At Comicpalooza cosplay is encouraged, shopping is also big. There are dozens of booths featuring art and unique handmade products from local artists.

"This show is super important because not only does it shine a light on Houston itself, it shines a light on the talent and the people," Ramos said.

Comicpalooza will take place at the George R Brown Convention Center Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28.
