A Cy Ridge football coach in need of a liver is getting one, from a fellow coach

CYPRESS, TX (KTRK) -- A beloved local football coach was facing certain death, but a fellow coach is giving him a fighting chance to live.

Cypress Ridge high school coach John McWilliams is getting a new liver, thanks to fellow coach Matt Beeler.

Beeler said he had no doubt he wanted to help when he heard Coach McWilliams had a genetic liver disease.

"My guardian angel over here, Coach Beeler, says, 'Hey don't worry about it. If I can qualify for you, you can have part of my liver."

"You never know when you'll have the opportunity to do something great," said Beeler. "You just have to be ready for it. And like I said, I'm ready."

Doctors say the sooner this transplant happens, the better. So their surgeries are scheduled for next week.
