HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former Clear Creek High School teacher has been convicted of having sex with one of her students.
Stephanie Forbes was found guilty last Friday of having an inappropriate relationship with a student and of sexual assault of a child. Prosecutors say Forbes repeatedly had sex with a 16-year-old boy at the school.
"All of the acts of abuse happened inside the school. In some cases they happened during school hours when there were other students just on the other side of the door," said Galveston County Assistant District Attorney Adam Poole.
At trial, Poole showed jurors some of the thousands of text messages investigators discovered between the teacher and her student. In one they discussed a tryst:
STUDENT: "Meet me in the loft? After school?"
FORBES: "YES"
The boy told the jury that was a meeting for sex. Poole says the pair clearly had conversations that stretched beyond the relationship that should exist between teacher and student.
"They had a running joke where they faked their deaths and run off to Fiji. So they could be together," said Poole.
Poole says the former student admitted to being a willing participant, but in the eyes of the law he was still a child.
Forbes' husband insists his wife did not have sex with the boy. Kevin Forbes says the evidence shown at trial wasn't enough to convict his wife.
"Unbelievable... Wasn't possible. There was no evidence," said Kevin Forbes.
Stephanie Forbes was sentenced to two years in prison for having an inappropriate relationship with a student and 10 years probation for sexual assault of a child. She is out on bond awaiting an appeal on both convictions.
