FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- Two men were arrested and charged Saturday after they allegedly attempted to burglarize vehicles in the Friendswood area.
Kevin Cailleteau, 21, of Friendswood, was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. Devon Garcia, 19, of Pearland, was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle.
Responding to a vehicle burglary in progress, Friendswood police say they apprehended Garcia around 1:39pm on Saturday.
After Garcia was arrested, a witness indicated another person had gotten away.
During a search of the area for that suspect, officers found several vehicles that were burglarized and a car full of suspected stolen property, including several GPS devices, cell phones, an iPod, and a Playstation 3. A purse was also recovered in a ditch.
Authorities say they also found in the suspected car, Cailleteau's wallet, his driver's license, as well as marijuana and Xanax. Friendswood Police say the vehicle registration belonged to Cailleteau's mother in Alvin.
An Alvin police officer tracked down Cailleteau at the home where the vehicle was registered, according to Friendswood authorities. They also say they found Garcia's 25-year old girlfriend at the residence who told police that she picked up Cailleteau in the Forest of Friendswood when he called her for a ride.
Police add they found the keys to the vehicle containing the suspected stolen property on Cailleteau's person when he was arrested.
At this time, police say they don't know how many vehicles were burglarized.
Police suspect other neighborhoods may have been burglarized and urge people to report any incidents of stolen property or your vehicle being entered.
Friendswood police suspect Cailleteau and Garcia may be responsible for more than 30 recent burglaries in the area. Investigators say they're also looking into whether the men are linked to other burglaries in Friendswood, League City, and Alvin.
Police say Cailleteau has prior arrests for burglary, theft, credit card abuse, as well as numerous other criminal offenses. Cailleteau's bond is set at $5,500. Authorities say Garcia has prior arrests for disorderly conduct and evading arrest. Garcia's bond is set at $1,500.
Authorities warn drivers that these thefts may have been prevented if the vehicles would have been locked.
