Store caters to breast cancer patients, gives so much more

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Cure and Company -- they call it the Sephora for breast cancer patients.

It's literally a one-stop shop with every item you could possibly need. But this store comes with something extra: love, compassion, and a friend for your journey.

Sasha Klein was the fifth of seven women in her family to be diagnosed with breast cancer. She said, "I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 31. Once you get over that initial shock, you really don't have a choice but the want to live just settles in, and you fight for you life."

After she finished her treatment two years ago, Klein and her mother, Irma Klink, also a survivor, decided to open a boutique catering to breast cancer patients. "We want people to walk through our doors and know that they can get everything they need and then the support that they're going to need as well," Klein adds.

Customer Bebe Benefiel had just finished her mastectomy surgery when she visited Cure and Company. "I needed a bra with padding until I got my reconstruction done," says Benefiel, and she found that along with every other care need, they carry post-surgery bras, wigs, chemotherapy creams, radiation skincare, scarves, hats, supportive books, and more.

Alison Burrows just finished her treatment last month. She adds, "All their products...and the advice. Just to have a place locally where you can come, someone to talk to who's been through it. It's brilliant."

Cure and Company isn't just for cancer patients. It's also a gift shop with fun trinkets and jewelry, as well as a spa with a purpose.

"For every person who comes in to get a spa service, we automatically donate a spa service to someone who is going through treatment," says Klein.

Nancy Olsen may not have cancer, but she is a huge advocate of the store. She shops at Cure and Company regularly. "I support the spa service, and I support the store because I know I'd want them there if I needed it," says Olsen.

This family business has become family to so many women.

"The kindness and join I got from them help me find my peace again, which is not easy when you first find out you're diagnosed," says Benefiel.

Klein and her mother cheer for patients' triumphs and lend a hand during tough times. Today, customer Lynette Lamey learned her sister-in-law passed away from cancer.

"The surgery was delayed, and it ended up being too late," says Lamey.

With that, Lamey reminds every woman, "Ladies, check your girls. Get those appointments done. Don't put it off."
