COLCHESTER, VT (KTRK) -- Black widow spiders have been found lurking in bags of seedless grapes in two different states.
In Colchester, Vermont, a black widow crawled up a woman's arm and bit her. The 21-year-old spent the night at the hospital. Her health will be monitored for months. Her mother caught the spider without incident. Those grapes were sold at Shaw's grocery store.
In Commerce Township, Michigan, a woman found a spider in red seedless grapes from Kroger.
Alexis Gentile told store managers about finding the spider. They thanked her for alerting them to the problem. They say is might become more common as farmers scale back on pesticide use. She says she would buy grapes from that store again.
