Gay traffic lights will stay in Austria

VIENNA, Austria -- Pedestrian crossing lights featuring same-sex couples that were installed temporarily in Vienna will remain.

The city installed the lights ahead of this year's "Eurovision song contest"

The normal stick figures on "walk" and "don't walk" lights were replaced with same-sex figures holding hands and a heart. The city of Vienna says the lights were meant to be a symbol of tolerance and were so popular, they are making them permanent.

Other lights featuring heterosexual couples holding hands were also used.
