Parents dead, children wounded in Ft. Bend Co. shooting

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX

We've learned the mother and father who were killed were small business owners in Fort Bend County. Friends and family say the husband owned a convenience store and the woman owned a day care, both in Rosenberg.

They were discovered shot to death inside their New Territory home at about 6:20am Monday. Investigators say one suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Their 15-year-old daughter, though shot, was able to call 911. Her 11-year-old brother was shot as well.

Detectives can't or won't say yet what led up to the rampage or which adult was the shooter.

We spoke briefly with friends of the family from the Ismaili Center in Sugar Land where they worshipped. They never had a clue anything might be wrong.

"No, never! Never," said Nimet Lakhani. "They were such a happy family."

Mumtaz Wadhwani said, "Just felt like I needed to go and see what's going on. Worried about the kids."

Investigators were hoping to learn more from the children once they were moved into recovery. Investigators say both had to have surgery but both should survive. At this point, investigators are not saying whether it was the mother or father who fired the weapon. There was no sign of forced entry.

The girl attends Travis High School and the boy attends Brazos Bend Elementary School. Fort Bend ISD says counselors are on hand at both schools, as needed.

No identities have been released.
