ABC11 Raleigh-Durham reports that a student confirmed she is the star of a pornographic video, and she's using the money she made to help pay her tuition at Duke University.
It costs more than $61,000 in tuition, room and board to attend Duke. "Lauren" claimed she saw porn as a chance to graduate from her dream school debt-free.
She maintains that she has nothing to be ashamed of , saying she sets her own boundaries and loves what she does. The only drawback is that people recognized her and word spread about what was happening, costing her privacy, she said.
People hate what she's doing enough to take to social media to criticize her, putting her anonymity at risk.
Duke leaders aren't commenting on the woman's situation, but they did issue a statement Monday that read, in part: "Whenever we identify a student in need of support, we reach out to them and offer the many resources that we have available on campus to assist them. Regarding financial aid, Duke has a substantial financial aid program that meets the full-demonstrated need of every student based on a careful review of his or her individual family circumstances."
According to ABC11, "Lauren" says she feels empowered rather than exploited. She believes she's been attacked online and on campus because of misperceptions about women and sexuality.
