Right around midnight, police say two men in a gold SUV rolled up to a family walking home at the Ranch at City Park apartments near W. Orem and tried to rob them at gunpoint.
Investigators say some words were exchanged, and the man with the gun fired at least five times in the family's direction, hitting both the father and son, one in the stomach, the other in the leg.
"At this point, it looks like nothing was actually taken," said Sgt. Christopher Hassig with the Houston Police Department. "The suspects do fit the description of previous incidents earlier in the evening. There were some robberies in the area."
"I saw the guy and his father. They were on the ground shot, bleeding. And it was devastating to see that," said an eyewitness.
Shocked as she was, this woman says it's hardly the first time.
"They steal cars like weekly. They rob people at gunpoint on a regular basis," she said.
She says her own van was stolen recently. And says management at the complex doesn't seem too concerned.
"I've reported this to the office and they say crime is everywhere. And I said crime is prevalent right here," she said.
Both men are expected to survive their injuries, but the two suspects are still out there.
Javon Harris, who lives right next to where the shots were fired, says he's feeling a little shaky himself.
You learn of a shooting not even a few feet from where you live, it's certainly a reality that it could happen to you as well," Harris said.
"I'm gonna move. But I just really hope all the residents know what's going on here," said the eyewitness.
Eyewitness News asked someone in the management's office to comment about those crime concerns. They said they will respond later this afternoon.
The did say there is no overnight security guard on the apartment complex.
