Man fatally shot after altercation in parking lot of SW Houston sports bar

HOUSTON

It happed outside the Cube's Sports Bar on Bissonnet near Plainfield. That's where police says a New Year's night club party ended in murder. Detectives say shots rang out just before 6am.

"After the shooting happened, apparently everybody just left and left him out there," said Sgt. Warren Meeler with the Houston Police Department. "HFD responded to the scene and pronounced him dead."

That unknown victim was shot multiple times, possibly by more than one gunman, according to police. They believe the trouble all started with some type of fight inside the after-hours club. The chaos quickly spilled into the parking lot.

"There had to have been a lot of people in there, probably 20 to 30 people in there at the time this altercation took place," Sgt. Meeler said.

As police tried gathering evidence outside Cube's sports bar, they say there's another big problem with this homicide case. Investigators say the parking lot was full when the after-hours club was open Tuesday morning, but none of the witnesses stuck around after the shooting.

Detectives say all the club patrons raced from the crime scene, leaving the victim behind.

"We know there are a lot of witnesses out there who saw what happened," said Sgt. Meeler. "We're asking them to come forward and give us some information."

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

This is not the first shooting outside the sports bar. On November 18, a suspect got into an argument with another man, fired shots near a crowd and hit two people, killing one of them. Two days later, Azell Keith Thrasher, Jr. was arrested and charged with murder.

Reporter Demond Fernandez spoke to tenants in the strip mall about the crime in the area. Hear what they had to say this afternoon on Eyewitness News.
