Bitter blast of winter hits Chicago, snow expected

January 18, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Chicago area could get a dusting of snow Thursday morning and a significant snowfall Friday.

"Light snow is going to hit before daybreak," said ABC7 meteorologist Mike Caplan. "We are talking about a quarter inch to two inches."

Bitter cold will follow with temperatures Thursday afternoon around 10 degrees and near zero Thursday night, Caplan said.

A bigger storm looms for Friday afternoon and night with six inches of snow possible.
