The hardest hit neighborhoods were Altadena, La Canada, La Crescenta, Culver City, Pasadena, Ontario, Ridgecrest, Compton, El Segundo, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, Castaic and Murrieta.
The power outages were wind related. Crews were poised to work overnight to restore power.
Officials urged residents to never to touch a downed line, even if it seems it's not energized. They urge residents to call 911 if they see a downed line.
The fierce wind also triggered a power blackout at Los Angeles International Airport, causing some flight delays.
With all the lights out in the surrounding neighborhood, two runways closed because debris flew onto them. It's unknown how many flights were affected by those runways.
Peak wind velocity in some areas included 47 mph at LAX, 97 mph at Lake Castaic and 60 mph at La Canada.
That has fire officials concerned.
"When you get 60, 70, 80 mile-an-hour winds, if a fire were to get established, because the brush is still dry even though we had some rain recently, it's going to be very difficult to stop," said Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mark Savage.
A high-wind warning remained across Southern California through Thursday morning.
The Pasadena Police Department reported experiencing a high volume of calls for service for fallen trees and debris blown on the roadways.
