Davison roots for Bruins and native son Tim Thomas

DAVISON Davison High School grad Tim Thomas is getting ready to make a run at the Cup.

Davison is going Cup crazy over its hometown hero, Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas.

"Oh, man. The family is just loving this, watching hockey in June, and your nephew is the best goaltender in the NHL," said Tim's Uncle Bill Thomas,

On the morning leading up to the Stanley Cup Finals, Tim's family and friends gathered for a breakfast worthy of Lord Stanley himself.

"You'd think we're in Boston. They think I look like his dad. People are coming up to me and saying your son is doing wonderful," Uncle Bill said.

For every game throughout the series, Uncle Chuck  Thomas knows exactly where he'll be. "I'm going to be sitting on the couch, trying not to have a heart attack, and hoping that its not a one-nothing game."

Over the last couple of days, several family members have received text messages from Tim. "Thanks for the support. We need four more W's. He wants to win," Uncle Gene Thomas said.

At 36, Tim is the first player from Davison to play for the Stanley Cup since Kenny Morrow back in the 80s. It's a big deal around town, especially for the Davison High School hockey team.

"It's inspirational. That could be any one of us on the team. You don't see it right now, but soon it could be," player Steve Stull said.

"You're thrilled. Here's one of your own getting to play for the Holy Grail. It's fantastic," said hockey coach Doug Towler.

Tim's parents plan to be at all of the Bruins home finals games. They actually live in Boston now. Work will prevent the rest of the family from making the trip, but they do plan to go to Boston if something special happens at the end of the series.

"I'm definitely going to go for the parade, and I can't wait until he brings the Cup back here. I'm going to drink out of the Cup," Aunt Phyllis Thomas vowed.

It's been a big year and a half for Tim Thomas. He's already won an Olympic silver medal, but the Stanley Cup one would be the "BIG" one.
