HPD, Texans team up for 'Blue Santa' program for kids

HOUSTON Andre Johnson graciously donated autographed memorabilia to Blue Santa that will be auctioned to raise funds to provide toys to needy children.

"It definitely makes Christmas better, you know, to know that you're helping other people make sure that they receive something for Christmas, because you know there a lot of people that don't," said Andre Johnson.

"Andre Johnson has done this sort of thing since coming to Houston and we are certainly a better community for it," said HPD Chief Charles McClelland. "He is a very good guy who is going to make a lot kids very happy this Christmas."

The aim of the partnership is to encourage public support for the Blue Santa Houston program and increase the number of underprivileged families assisted this year through community donations and corporate sponsorships.

Since 1984, the Blue Santa Program has delivered thousands of gifts, toys and holiday cheer to needy children and their families. The program is expected to provide toys to more than 12,000 kids.
