Expansion plans for San Antonio's Witte Museum

SAN ANTONIO, TX The first major overhaul of the WitteMuseum since the 1960s is scheduled to begin this fall with the overhaul of two buildings.

Museum president and CEO Marise McDermott told the San Antonio Express-News that the Witte board and museum administrators decided not to wait until every penny was raised because there are great deals to be had right now in construction.

Nearly three-fourths of the estimated $17 million project budget has been secured, with more fundraising plans scheduled to be announced Wednesday.

Pioneer Hall is slated to become the South Texas Heritage Center. A former office building will be home to the Witte Research Center.
