A Harris County sheriff's deputy who drowned while trying to save his dog will be laid to rest today. Eddie Wotipka, 51, jumped into a rain-swollen creek near his Baytown home last week to save the dog, but he got carried away by the current. Dive teams recovered his body later that morning. The dog also died.

His wife tried to save him, and neighbors needed ropes to pull her out of the water.

The funeral begins at 10am at First Baptist Church of Highlands. Wotipka will be buried at Sterling White Cemetery.
