REVIEW: 'She's Out of My League'

Kirk is just an average Joe, and he can't believe his luck. He's stuck in a seemingly dead-end job as an airport security agent. Against all odds, Molly (Alice Eve), a successful and outrageously-gorgeous babe, has fallen for him. Not only is Kirk stunned, but his friends, family and his even ex-girlfriend are beyond belief.

Now he has to figure out how to make the relationship work, although he'd be the first to admit she's totally out of his league.

We've learned to root for the nerdy underdogs in the past. The geeks that we laugh at have the worst luck and never really catch a break. Kirk (Jay Baruchel) is no exception to the formula. In fact, there really isn't very much that hasn't been done before.

I must say, from the very beginning the chemistry with Jay and his fellow co-workers at TSA felt pretty awkward. The entire first 15-20 minutes seemed to be carried by his best friend, Stainer (TJ Miller). Stainer can only be described as the mouthy friend that thinks he knows everything but always keeps his best friend's best interests in mind.

Fortunately for all of us, the character interaction and chemistry improve and so does the humor.

I found myself laughing out loud at several points in this one. Surprisingly, it wasn't all because of Kirk's misfortune.

The film does a good job of setting up the meeting by following all the reactions of all the glaring and drooling men. There are also numerous jealous women who exaggerate the situation to an even greater degree.

Kirk just doesn't see why he has a shot, but he does take advantage of his opportunity.

Even Kirk's own family shows jealousy and disbelief with all that goes on between Kirk and Molly. What seems odd is Kirk's complete and utter success as a loser. His own family has accepted his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend almost as family.

I believe this movie was meant to play on his loser status, but I think it could have been better executed.

In the end, "She's Out of My League" it is a fun movie to watch. It's the first time I've seen TJ Miller really show what he can do in a comedy, and I hope we see more in the future.
