Apartment fire delays opening for 3 schools

HOUSTON The fire broke out on Aldine Mail Route near Gloger in northeast Houston overnight. Witnesses say the flames started in a maintenance room and quickly spread to across the complex. Everyone made it out safely, but some residents lost everything.

"Some of them are sad and crying cause they lost all their stuff and one of my cousins' niece had a baby and she lost all her baby stuff and the clothes. And now she's sad and they don't know what to do," said fire victim Juanita Saucedo.

There were at least 12 to 14 units severely damaged or destroyed. Dozens of people were displaced by the fire.

Aldine ISD has delayed the opening of MacArthur Senior High, MacArthur Ninth Grade School and Hambrick Middle School because of the backup in the area. Students must be at school at 10am. Employees should report to work at their regular time.
