HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A family that's suffered for five years since a 16-year-old girl went missing is now getting extra attention to the cause.
Mayor Annise Parker declared February 3 Missing Persons Day. It's the birthday for Ali Lowitzer. She disappeared in Spring in 2010, and February 3 is her 21st birthday.
The Lowitzers say families who are missing loved ones can get a little comfort out of this.
"It is a very sad day for me. But, when I'm able to share Ali's story, and know other people will hear me, that's what makes it a more comforting day for me," Ali's mother, Joann Lowitzer, said.
According to the FBI, about 10,000 people are reported across the Houston area each year.
