Student arrested following brawl at HISD's Bellaire High School

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A student was arrested following a fight at Bellaire High School that sent a Houston ISD officer to the hospital.

Eyewitness News obtained cell phone video of the brawl that broke out Wednesday at Bellaire High School. Three female students were trying to go toe-to-toe in the middle of the hallway. The video shows a campus police officer tries to intervene but one girl is just too much to handle. The tussle sends the officer tumbling to the ground. His foot is hurt. He limps away.

"It's everywhere, it's everywhere. It's like just one fight and then more, more, more," said Vernon Johnson.

This is becoming an all too familiar scene in local schools -- the cursing, scratching and weave snatching fights between girls.

"Yes! It's out-of-control," said one parent.

"Girls are more aggressive than guys. These days you got girls that will beat up guys," said Johnson.

Last week a video from Cypress Lakes surfaced, showing four girls just pounding each other.

"You can't do that in school," said one parent.

Parents to whom we showed the videos were stunned.

"The problem is maybe they don't respect authority. It starts off at home. You got to train your kids," added Johnson.

Some parents feel social media is fueling this female fight frenzy.

"They feel like it's OK because people blasting it all over the Internet and they get likes and everyone is watching this," added K. Jones.

HISD released a statement on the Bellaire fight saying:

"An HISD police officer was injured Wednesday while intervening in an altercation between three Bellaire High School students. All students involved will be disciplined per the HISD Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, one student was charged with resisting arrest. We do not tolerate fighting of any kind. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority."
