Owners of world's largest pool say it isn't open to public

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Earlier this week, we showed you the world's largest residential pool, and it's just outside of Houston. But little did that homeowner know, giving us an inside glimpse at his mega-pool would bring such headaches.

We told you about the largest residential pool in world, a $3 million oasis in El Campo.

"Everybody has a good time here. This is a great place to come relax, kick back," the pool's owner, Mike Mobley, said.

It features slides, waterfalls, rock climbing, rope swinging, a bar and even a lazy river. Since we took you on a tour, strangers -- uninvited guests -- have been showing up at the Mobley's doorstep to take a dip with coolers, floaties and toys in hand.

"There's people coming from Conroe, Houston, Palacios. Just everywhere around from hours away, and it's kind of crazy," pool owner Mikayla Mobley said.

Jenny Nguyen drove nearly 150 miles.

"I thought it was so beautiful. And I thought it was public, so I drove from Houston all the way here," she said.

Others also showed up Wednesday and were turned away. Newly purchased barricades are now placed in the driveway to send the message.

"It's a big liability reason. It's in our backyard, and we're not here all day long, and we're responsible for everything that happens here and people can't just show up and be here," Mikayla Mobley said.

So for now, the Mobley family takes turns turning visitors away and guarding their new American treasure.
