Polar Plunge in Galveston benefiting Special Olympics Texas
GALVESTON, Texas -- Hundreds of brave Polar Plungers are raising money to support Special Olympics Texas by jumping into the Gulf of Mexico!
More than 300 participants turned out for the 8th annual Polar Plunge at Stewart Beach in Galveston, raising thousands of dollars to benefit Special Olympics of Texas.

Among the brave 'plungers' were representatives from the Galveston Police Department, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, Galveston DA's office, as well as community and school groups.
The temperature was a chilly 48 degrees, with water temperature of 54 -- according to the Galveston Beach Patrol, who were on hand and in the water -- and wind of about 20mph with gusts to approximately 45 mph, with a Gale Warning in effect.
The youngest plunger in the water for this event was Landon, age 3.
Like so many community events, a costume contest is always in order. While staying stylish isn't always easy soaking wet and freezing cold, the Yellow Frozes of Texas, Space Center Rockets and Gracie's Gang all pulled it off, taking home the coveted bronze, silver and gold Plunger Awards.
