EXTENSIVE DAMAGE: Watch as ABC13's Charly Edsitty gets a closer look at the wreckage left behind at the Super 8 Motel.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities are investigating after a car crashed into a motel on Richey Road, causing a fire and killing two people.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputies and the Houston Fire Department responded to the Super 8 Motel where a massive hole and extensive damage were left in the front office.

The medical examiner's office was on the scene of the crash, and at least two bodies were seen being loaded into their vehicle.

Authorities have not released details on the circumstances of the crash at this time.

The hotel manager says fortunately, no employees or residents were injured, despite a clerk standing behind the front desk at the time of the crash.

He says when the car crashed into the building, it caught fire, but the sprinkler system inside prevented the fire from spreading.

"It was like a big thunder, a big, big noise. Everybody woke up," recalled motel owner Roger Patel.

He says his family of six was sleeping in the hotel at the time of the crash.

"My kids were sleeping upstairs, they're all okay," Patel said.

A piece of a large power pole was left with the damage. It appears the car hit the pole on the side of the feeder road a couple hundred feet away and somehow carried part of it all the way to the motel.

It is believed the two victims were both in the car at the time of the crash.
