KINGWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- Assistant principal Dr. Doug Monk is well-known around Kingwood High School campus for his crazy and elaborate outfits during most of the school year, but he takes it up a notch before students leave for Christmas break.

Monk has been with Humble Independent School District for more than 20 years, and his passion for education is something he brings to campus every single day.

"I love my job because it's important to create an environment where kids feel safe and valued," Monk said.

And to add a little fun around campus, Monk wears his Christmas-themed clothes to spread a little holiday cheer among the students.

Monk wears Christmas sweaters and suits, and has even dressed up as Elf on the Shelf in these last few days. He said he tries to buy pieces of Christmas-themed clothing every chance he gets. His wife helps him know which outfits are the best.

"She'll roll her eyes or give me a thumbs up. A lot of days it's a thumbs down," Monk joked.

Monk said he realizes that the cost of the outfits add up, and he's willing to take scrutiny from some students, but in the end, it is all about putting a smile on their faces.

Monk said, "If I can make one kid smile, it's worth every dollar."
