HOUSTON (KTRK) -- More than 70 horses were rescued and moved to higher ground in northeast Harris County this morning. Rescuers are working to reach three others, but those animals are not in grave danger.

Emergency crews rescue horse from Cypress area

Several horses were seen on video this morning struggling for survival amid rising flood waters. The animals could be seen trying keep their heads above water in strong flood currents near Cypress Creek.

In video shared with Eyewitness News from SpringHappenings.com, several horses could be seen trying to make it safely to higher ground as flood waters swirled around them on Cypresswood north of FM1960.

Rescuers have put their immediate focus on saving trapped people. But, according to the video, animal rescuers from the Houston SPCA were called to the scene to try to assist the trapped horses.

Office of Emergency Management officials say none of the animals died.

The video was posted around 8am and has been shared more than 4,000 times on Facebook.
