Police: Store clerk fatally shoots robbery suspect
The southwest Houston clerk says he just wanted to protect his father and sister.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A southeast Houston store clerk used deadly force when a suspect attempted to rob his business. He says he just wanted to protect his father and sister.

This all started around 10:45pm Friday when the suspect walked into the convenience store on Scranton near Dexter with a shotgun. The owner of the store was inside with his son and daughter.

The father pulled out a handgun and told the robber to stop. When the robber turned around with his shotgun, the son grabbed the gun from his dad and shot the robber in the leg.

The robber started running down the aisles of the store, trying to engage the son with his gun, and that's when police say the son shot the robber several times, killing him.

Police say the robber had staked out the store earlier with two other people, who police are now questioning.

"The robbery suspect was up here earlier with two individuals have since returned to the store, and we're investigating that aspect of the scene," HPD Lt. JT Barringer said.

Police say the store owner said he's been robbed several times before but not by this suspect. The family is fully cooperating with police in the investigation.
