Vehicle falls off North Main bridge onto I-45 lanes below

HOUSTON

It happened on the North Freeway near North Main around 3pm.

Police say a vehicle was heading northbound on North Main when it crashed through the chain-link fence and fell from the bridge down onto the freeway. The vehicle landed upside down on the main lanes below.

Witnesses pulled over to help the driver until emergency crews arrived and extricated the driver from the vehicle.

"I saw the tail end of it, crashing and I just thought oh my God, and then I told my co-workers, 'Call 911, call 911! Hurry, there was just a car wreck. I'm still in shock, I'm still shaking," a witness told Eyewitness News.

We don't have any information about the driver's injuries. A co-worker of the victim tells Eyewitness News the driver had previously suffered from some kind of brain problem.

Police are still investigating the wreck.

Two right lanes of Interstate 45 North between Calhoun and North Main are shut down at the moment. The North Main Street bridge was closed for a couple of hours following the wreck but was reopened during rush hour.

We're following this developing story and will post any new information as we get it. For complete coverage, watch Eyewitness News beginning at 4pm.
