Vinyl records making comeback? Sales suggest so

HOUSTON

CD sales are down as well as the number of digital downloads. But surprisingly, vinyl sales grew 32 percent last year. Sales have jumped to levels not seen since the 70s and 80s.

So, why the surge?

Because of digital downloads, CDs are no longer the most convenient option. Those who now want a physical copy of an album are going for something a bit more nostalgic, knowing they can always download their song as well.

"This is the future. The past. It's substantial. It has soul. It doesn't come streaming from some invisible sound cloud somewhere," said Marc Campbell with The Sound Gallery.

Overall, vinyl sales still make up a very small percentage of all albums sold.
