Man hospitalized after shooting at apartment complex in Houston's east side, HPD says

Houston police said the suspect ran up to the man and shot him in the abdomen.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot at an apartment complex in Houston's east side on Thursday night, investigators said.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a call at about 11:30 a.m. in the 12300 block of Fleming Drive.

A witness reported to authorities that the suspect ran up to the victim, identified by HPD as a man in his 20s, and shot at him. Investigators said the suspect fired five times, but only shot him once in the abdomen. The suspect then fled the scene, authorities said.

Officers said when they arrived ot the scene, they performed CPR on the victim until Houston Fire Department crews took him to the hospital. Officials said the victim was admitted into surgery and is expected to be OK.

HPD said the investigation remains ongoing as they work to identify the suspect.
