A man is in the hospital after he was shot by police overnight during a confrontation in northwest Houston.

This started as some kind of domestic disturbance at the Golden Bamboo Apartments on Mills Road around 12am.

When officers arrived, they were immediately directed to a second-story apartment by witnesses in the parking lot. Officers found a female complainant holding a broken chair.

The officers began to talk to the woman to find out what happened when suddenly the door to one of the apartment units swung open and a man charged out towards officers. The man then allegedly began to struggle with officer and the officers noticed he was armed with a knife.

Authorities say that's when the suspect tried to stab one of the officers and the second officer, in fear for his life and partner's life, fired at least two shots, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Neither officer was injured in the incident. There's no word yet on what charges the suspect will face.
