Firefighter responds to wreck that killed his daughter

BROOKLINE, NH

It happened just before 9am Tuesday in the town of Brookline. Katie Hamilton was turning left when she was hit from behind by another driver.

The force pushed Hamilton's vehicle into the traffic coming the opposite way and her car was broadsided.

One of the first responders to the scene was her father, a Brookline volunteer firefighter.

"It's a sad, sad day for all of us, now just because it's Christmas Eve but because of the relationship of the deceased," Chief Bill Quigley of the Brookline Police Department told TV station WMUR. "It's a horrific crash, it really is. I know that she is a young mother. She's - like I said - been in the community for a long time. Her family are impeccable people who are highly respected throughout the town of Brookline and the surrounding areas."

Chief Quigley says the cause is still under investigation.

"It could be anything. We don't have our fingers on it just yet at this point. But, we are pretty certain that speed and impairment were not a factor so that would rule it down to driver distraction issue at this point," he said.

So far, no charges have been filed.
