Car theft suspect shot by his victims following brief chase

HOUSTON

Houston police say the victims were eating at a restaurant off the East Freeway and Uvalde when they saw one of their vehicles being stolen. They got into their other vehicle and began chasing the suspect who took off the stolen car.

The victims forced the suspect to drive into the guardrail, foiling his efforts to evade them. When he tried to run across the service road, one of the victims pulled out a gun and shot him in the wrist.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he is seeking treatment.

Police say the Harris County District Attorney's Office has been contacted, and the suspect will likely face auto theft charges.

Right now, the shooter won't face any charges, but the incident may be referred to a grand jury if necessary.
