The gas has been turned off in a north Harris County neighborhood after a truck crashed into a gas meter. And now, deputy constables are searching for the driver responsible. Authorities say the crash happened between two homes on Sawmill Pass Drive near spring Shannon around 2:45am The driver apparently hit two mailboxes, a parked truck, a fire hydrant and then the house.

The pickup also hit part of a gas meter, causing a leak. Five homes were evacuated until the gas could be turned off.

"It sheared off the gas meter which exposed the pipe in the ground and it was leaking natural gas until the power company came and turned it off," said Lt. Steve Cupid with the Precinct 4 Constable's Office.

No one in any of the homes was hurt.

One witness told deputy constables a group of around four or five young males ran from the truck after the accident. Investigators are asking for anyone who has information on the driver of the truck or any occupants to contact them.
