Dispatchers in Liberty County say they received a call at about 8:30pm Saturday from someone saying they saw what was described as 'red fire balls in the sky' traveling near the city of Daisetta. A couple of deputies who responded also say they noticed the lights across the sky.
After the sheriff's office put a release out about the lights, the case was resolved. A Raywood-area resident called in to say the lights were from between 50 and 75 sky lanterns that were released at a wedding reception.
No charges will be filed, though the resident was told that releasing paper balloons with flames inside might not have been a wise decision, given the drought conditions and high winds.
